Could there be some A-listers after all?

When Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor’s christening details emerged overnight, royal fans were surprised by how many details were shrouded in secrecy.

Compared to that of his first cousins Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, the Palace revealed that Archie’s christening would be a private affair and the identity of his godparents will be kept quiet.

Sharing a statement on Thursday, the Palace revealed the christening will be taking place on Saturday, July 6 – exactly two months after baby Archie was born to brand new parents Duchess Meghan and Prince Harry.

In the statement, the palace revealed: “Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor will be christened in a small private ceremony by the Archbishop of Canterbury in the Private Chapel at Windsor Castle on Saturday 6th July.”

Continuing, the statement explained: The Duke and Duchess of Sussex look forward to sharing some images taken on the day by photographer Chris Allerton.”

In a final addition, the statement added: “The godparents, in keeping with their wishes, will remain private.”

Let’s hope we get to see those little cheeks!

And this is where fans were most shocked – why the big secret?

Keeping with tradition that “they’re doing things their own way”, Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan are certainly ones to buck the royal trends of Prince William and Duchess Kate – however, we also have a few of our own theories as to why this information will be particularly classified.

There are A-listers in the mix

It has been long and widely reported since the announcement of Meghan’s pregnancy that some serious A-Lister’s would play godparent to Baby Sussex.

Firstly there is George and Amal Clooney who are frequent guests of the Sussex household Frogmore Cottage.

In fact, in an interview with the Daily Mail in the UK, George even revealed just how frequent.

“We have dinners and stuff,” he said “And we’re friends with them for all the reasons that you’re friends with anybody.”

According to earlier reports, George and Harry became friends after the Hollywood star attended a charitable event at Kensington Palace and when Harry started dating Meghan, he introduced her to the famous couple.

Other celeb friends that could be in the mix are Serena Williams (a very dear friend of Meghan’s), Victoria and David Beckham and of course, Meghan’s best friend and stylist, Jessica Mulroney.

The 38-year-old Canadian stylist’s three children were page boys and a flower girl at the Royal Wedding on May 19, 2018 – so she could be a shoe in.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are not among them

One of the main reasons they may be being tight-lipped about who has been bestowed the special honour, is the simple fact that Prince Harry’s brother, William, is not on the list.

And while in the US (where Meghan is from) it’s customary to name siblings as godparents, it’s not always the case for the royal family – and is often reserved for close friends.

Truth be told, Prince Harry does not actually serve as godparent to his nephews and niece, so this shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise, however, in light of recent “feud” rumours between the brothers – they may just not want the public fanfare!

The brothers have reportedly been at odds ever since Harry proposed, because William thought he moved too fast with Meghan.

They really just want to keep most things private

Ever since Prince Harry and Meghan got together, the couple have been notoriously private over many details of their relationship.

When Archie was born, we found out in quick succession that the former Suits actress was in labour, and then minutes later, that she had indeed given birth to a bouncing baby boy!

Introducing him to the world, they did a very short photo call a few days later, on their own terms – and then on Mother’s and Father’s day in the UK, they opted to show only Archie’s tiny feet and then half of his face respectively.

Perhaps this is really the reason why we won’t get any other information from the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

And frankly, they can share whatever they like when it comes to their lives – especially since their son has no official title and is only seventh-in-line to the throne.

So, if you think about it – their reasons are clear – it’s their life and it’s their decision.
