Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds’ bromance has been going strong for coming up to two decades, but the friendship could have an expiry date if Hugh’s girlfriend has anything to say about it!
According to insiders, Sutton Foster has been putting the hard word on Hugh, 57, to distance himself from his long-time friend and co-star – and the personal baggage he brings with him, which is largely due to wife Blake Lively’s ongoing career dramas.
Sutton and Blake’s secret tension
“Sutton and Blake don’t get on, and combined with the fact that Blake’s recent legal issues have affected Ryan’s career, Sutton’s right to be fearful of Hugh hanging out with Ryan,” a source tells Woman’s Day.
The loyal Wolverine actor has supported Ryan, 49, and Blake, 39, through their drawn-out, bitter legal battle against It Ends With Us director Justin Baldoni, but from where Sutton’s standing, it’s high time Hugh re-evaluates the future of the friendship.
“Hugh’s not having any of it, of course. He’s always been a loyal friend and has seen so many of his close mates go through hell – and he’s always stood by them. Ryan’s one of them,” the insider says of the men, who travelled to Spain together recently for the celebrity SailGP boat race.
“He knows Ryan’s not doing so well and wants to help him get through this, no matter who it upsets.”
‘They’ve never had a friendship’
It’s not the answer Sutton, 51, wants to hear, especially since there’s no love lost between her and Blake.
There have been rumours the Broadway actress and the Hollywood star have “no real affinity”, and haven’t been able to forge a connection despite their partners spending so much time together.
Even going on the occasional double date hasn’t helped Sutton and Blake break the ice.
A source said last year, “When it comes to Blake’s one-on-one with Sutton, they’ve never had a deep and meaningful friendship.”
The concerns come at an already tense time for Hugh and Sutton. The actor is reportedly under financial stress as his New York penthouse continues to sit on the market – over three years after he and ex-wife Deborra-lee Furness first tried to sell it for $54.2 million.
The property has been listed since March at a drastically reduced $40.1 million, but has still had no bites.
“Putting the triplex back on the market at such a huge price drop just shows how desperate Hugh is to sell it,” a source tells Woman’s Day.
The “house of broken dreams” is placing strain on Hugh’s relationship with Sutton, as the couple are forced to put their future goals on hold.
“He and Sutton have had to put off buying their dream country bolthole until he gets this cash windfall,” a source spills. “It’s been a frustrating time for them.”
