Nicole Kidman’s fears surface as Keith Urban joins Katy Perry on American Idol

Keith Urban can’t wait to get back onto the set of American Idol after announcing his upcoming return 
as a guest mentor.

It’s been seven years since he flirted up a storm with fellow judge Jennifer Lopez on the hit talent show, and insiders say his wife Nicole Kidman 
”is bracing for more of the same” when it comes to current judge Katy Perry.

“Keith is a huge fan of Katy’s – one of his favourite songs is Teenage Dream,” reveals an insider.

“He’s never made a fuss over performing in front of other judges, but this time with Katy there, he’s making a huge effort to put on a perfect show. He’s always admired her vocal range and has a terabyte of songs he’d love to record with her.”

However, friends say Nicole’s not going to sit back and let her husband, 55, embarrass himself in front of his musical crush.

“She’s told Keith to keep his distance,” adds the insider.

“She doesn’t want another rehash of rumours like last time with J.Lo, but it’s also fair to say Nicole’s always been insecure about someone so musically talented as Katy.

“Nicole’s a master in her craft, but completely out of her depth when it comes to connecting to Keith’s musical passions.”

SCHMOOZING STARS

“She’s definitely planning 
on bringing their daughters [Sunday and Faith] to the set when Keith performs, even 
if it’s just to mark her territory.”

“She knows Katy’s flirty 
nature could easily cause Keith to flush and that’s the 
last thing she wants.”

While American Idol bosses 
will no doubt be hoping for some 
sparks to fly between Keith and 
Katy, 38, things could get even 
more complicated by the fact 
that Katy’s fiance Orlando Bloom has every intention “of schmoozing up to Nicole”.

“In what comes across like some crazy episode of an A-list Wife Swap, Orlando plans on visiting 
the set should Nicole show up to support Keith,” adds the insider.

“He’s always wanted to work with Nicole, ever since he missed out on Moulin Rouge!, and is not going to let a chance to at least say hello pass him by.”

The 46-year-old Brit hasn’t had many big box office hits in recent years, so friends say landing a job alongside Nicole, 55, could change the course of his career.

“It’s his dream to be Nicole’s leading 
man – he even put his name down 
for her Lucille Ball movie with no luck,” adds the insider.

“He’s definitely on a mission to work opposite Nicole.”

CAUGHT IN THE MIDDLE

Friends say despite being caught in the middle of all this, Katy isn’t worried about Nicole.

“Of course Katy’s not comfortable about Orlando hustling for jobs on her work turf, but she also knows Nicole and Keith are both huge fans of hers,” adds the insider.

“She adored them when she met them at various awards shows over the years and they’ve done nothing but gush over her.

“As long as Orlando doesn’t embarrass himself, she’s looking forward to having some fun with Keith and Nicole.”
