Surfing sisters Mikaela and Eliza were the first team to be eliminated from House Rules tonight after ending up at the bottom of the leaderboard.

Here, the girls tell TV WEEK about their House Rules experience and reveal why they won’t be staying in touch with Shayn and Carly…

Hi girls! Were you upset to leave?

Eliza: I was actually relieved. It was pretty full on. Getting on the show was a huge win for us, we did it for mum. I saw it [the elimination] coming from Queensland, I just knew. We were never able to impress the judges, no matter what we did. I was very happy to be eliminated!

Mikaela: We would’ve been disappointed if we knew we hadn’t given it all but we did everything we could’ve. We tried so hard and I feel that’s why we weren’t too disappointed.

You guys were the youngest contestants on the show but never seemed to lose your cool. Why do you think that is?

M: I think you’ve got to look at it for what it is – a TV show. There are bigger things going on in the world. It’s not that of a big deal. I feel that’s why we didn’t lose our cool.

E: It’s a competition – life goes on after it!

You’re pro surfers – was it tough leaving that identity behind for House Rules?

M: It was tough for me to take a step back from surfing. It was a big sacrifice, but we did it for mum and I would do it again in a heartbeat.

E: Definitely. But it showed us that as long as we work really hard and put 110% in , we can achieve anything. We’ve never designed kitchens in three hours. As long as you work hard, you can achieve anything. We’re lady tradies, as well as surfing sisters!

Mikaela, you previously told us that Shayn and Carly don’t put the homeowners first and that you “saw a different side to them”. Did the dynamic change after they were accused of strategic scoring at their house reno?

M: It was a personal attack on Pete and Courtney and that’s why everyone was so upset. It came out of the blue and didn’t make sense.

E: I think it did change the dynamic. Everyone realised they weren’t going to give credit where credit is due. I just feel it’s a bit immature and they’ve kind of shot themselves in the foot.

Will you stay in touch with them?

M: Probably not, if I’m honest!
