She rubs shoulders with celebs, lives large in New York City and boasts a very impressive wardrobe. Introducing Marnie The Dog, the painfully cute 12-year-old Shih Tzu with over a million followers on Instagram.
But life for this pokey-tonged pup wasn’t always so peachy. In fact, she used to go by the name of Stinky and lived rough on the streets of Connecticut. The cutie also had 12 decaying teeth and was going blind in one eye.
That was until she was picked up by animal control and spent four months in the pound before she was adopted by MTV Producer Shirley Braha. Since then, Shirley has taken charge of Marnie’s health and she only continues to thrive.
As for that famous tongue and head tilt? “Her tongue was hanging out even when all her teeth were intact. The reality is Marnie just has a long tongue, and has always had a long tongue, and its awesome. When it’s snowing she puts her tongue back in,” Shirley revealed on Marnie’s Tumblr page.
She added: “According several veterinarians, Marnie is a survivor of a brief illness called Vestibular Syndrome, which she almost certainly had at some point before being adopted. most dogs are able to recover and continue living normal, pain-free and happy lives— sometimes with a head-tilt!”
