Former Big Brother star Ben Zabel rushed to hospital after drug overdose!

Former Big Brother contestant Ben Zabel was rushed to hospital over the weekend after overdosing on prescription drugs.

The 2013 housemate and fan favourite was reportedly treated by paramedics at his Brisbane apartment on Saturday evening, and was later rushed to Royal Brisbane hospital after taking a variety of medications.

A source close to the 32-year-old has told news.com.au that “Ben was seen by Mental Health [services] on Sunday and was then released” that afternoon.

“He is quietly recovering,” the insider added.

On Sunday afternoon, the former flight attendant posted a photo of his hospital wristband via Instagram, along with the caption:  “As Mark Twain once said — “Reports of my dearth have been greatly exaggerated (sic)”. Thank you to all the staff at Royal Brisbane.”

The reality star’s publicist, Jeremy Hansen has since released a statement saying: “On Saturday evening (15th November) Ben Zabel suffered a drug overdose. He was treated by paramedics on the scene in his apartment and was later transported to The Royal Brisbane Hospital for further treatment. Ben was released from hospital late yesterday afternoon and asks for privacy at this time.”

Ben has previously spoken publicly about his struggle with anxiety and depression.

Fellow BB contestant and last year’s winner, Tim Dormer, has since reached out to his mate, posting well-wishes via Instagram.

“Thinking of my mate @benfrombrisbane and hoping to hear from him soon. Sending ?? and light,” Tim captioned a sweet snap of the pair together.
