How to make “deadbeat dads” pay child support

A new law passed in Arizona will see dads who refuse to pay child support shamed on Twitter.

“Deadbeat” Dads who refuse to pay child support are being named and shamed on Twitter.

The Verge reports on a controversial move by Arizona governor Doug Ducey to post names and even photographs of ‘losers’ who don’t support their kids.

The names of the Dads appear on a Twitter account run by the Arizona Department of Economic Security.

“For too long, you’ve been able to remain anonymous, with no shame,” said Arizona governor Doug Ducey.

“Well, here’s a new one for all the deadbeat dads out there: effective immediately, the state is going to begin posting the photos, names and money owed by these losers to social media, with the hashtag #deadbeat.”

Arizona law requires the State to post names and photos of individuals who owe child support to its website.

Ducey says more than 400 parents owe ‘a significant amount’ in overdue child support.

“If you don’t want your embarrassing — unlawful — and irresponsible behavior going viral: man up, and pay up,” Ducey said.

Officials have already shamed two fathers, including Aaron Ace Anderson, who is said to owe more than $170,000.

Critics want to know if the State will also shame “deadbeat Mums”.

(answer: yes).
