Sparks flew between Carolina Santos and Daniel Holmes when they struck up a conversation during the reality show’s latest dinner party.

For online business owner Carolina, 33, the chat with Daniel, 30, came at a point when she had realised she and her groom, Dion Giannarelli, 34, weren’t a good match.

“I was trying to be positive and keep the hopes up that something could develop, although the initial spark and chemistry weren’t really there for me,” she tells Woman’s Day.

Personal trainer Daniel was feeling the same way about his bride, Jessica Serancino, 27.

“We were discussing that we were matched with people that weren’t really our usual type and we didn’t find a connection,” Carolina adds.

But the conversation went beyond commiserating about the social experiment not delivering a perfect match.

“When a hot guy comes to you and says, ‘Oh, you’re my usual type. I literally described you when I applied for the show,’ I obviously felt flattered,” says Carolina.

“And I did think Daniel was handsome and charming. I may have flirted back.”

Meanwhile, Domenica Calarco stands behind her decision to let Jess know she didn’t approve of the way the new bride was treating her groom Daniel.

“The reasoning for her being horrible towards him was ridiculous,” says Dom, 28.

“Instead of coming to the conclusion that she didn’t like him, didn’t find him attractive, didn’t want to be around him, she thought it would be easier to have a go at little things and be mean to him in order to cause fractures in the relationship. I don’t think he deserved it.”

Having been in the experiment longer than Jess, Dom knew “exactly what she was going through, but she just didn’t want a bar of [my advice] and that really didn’t sit well with me”.

“Some of the other girls were consoling her and really stroking her ego to the point where I thought, ‘Oh, please!’

“She clearly didn’t like him, so just say that! I was trying to be like, ‘What’s the real story?’ And she didn’t like that!”
