Grammar School teacher commits suicide after pedophile allegation

“I have enormous sympathy for his family, but I thought it was important to tell my story, to show some courage because I hadn’t over the years.''

A teacher at the exclusive Brisbane Grammar School has taken his own life after being labelled a “pedophile predator’’ by an internet blogger.

The blogger, Brendan Sheehan, said the teacher, Greg Masters, had abused him when they were both at the school as students, 30 years ago.

Mr Masters was two years older than Mr Sheehan, and had since become a teacher at the school.

At the time of his death this week, he was head of Year 7 and ran the swimming program for Grammar.

In a statement yesterday, Brisbane Grammar yesterday said there had not been any complaints about Mr Masters since he began teaching at the school in 1994.

The Australian quotes Mr Sheehan saying: “I have enormous sympathy for his family, but I thought it was important to tell my story, to show some courage because I hadn’t over the years, and I wanted to set an example for others to come forward.”

In his post, Mr Sheehan accused his former friend of abusing him during sleepovers after plying him with “Serapax-spiked vodka.’’

“He’s a schoolteacher at Brisbane Grammar now, the pedophilic predator who pretended to be my pal, but was really friend to no one but the undertow, and took innocents like me in, and wouldn’t let go,’’ the post said.

A spokesman for Brisbane Grammar told The Australian that Mr Masters, an English and geography teacher, had not been the subject of any complaint in his 21 years at the school.
