Well my friend, have we got the best news for you.
A Pygmy Hippo calf was just born at Taronga Zoo.
Look at her! Awwwwwwwwww
She’s the first born at the zoo in nearly seven years and she’s the calf of first time parents too.
Fergus and Kambiri actually had the calf on the 21st of Feb, but she’s been kept under wraps until today.
And the good news doesn’t stop there – the zoo’s announcing a competition so you can choose her name. Just please go for something better than Boaty McBoat Face…
The last calf born at the zoo was in 2010, her mum Kambiri, who’s smashing this whole mum thing out of the park.
“Kambiri is proving to be an absolute natural as a mother. She’s very attentive and a great teacher, guiding the calf as she learns to swim and showing her what foods to eat,” said keeper, Renae Moss.
“It’s also important for the calf to learn these natural mothering behaviours, as we hope she’ll grow up to be an excellent mum herself. With as few as 2000-3000 Pygmy Hippos remaining in the wild, every little calf is important.”
