Store forced to remove prank pregnancy test from shelves

“How on earth do you think this is acceptable?”

Surf store City Beach has come under fire after a mother penned a furious post on Facebook over a “Prank Pregnancy Test”.

The woman, who has asked to remain anonymous, wrote that she had become angry when she went to City Beach North Lakes in Queensland and saw the fake pregnancy test that always returns a positive result, Courier Mail reports.

“This is NOT funny … to sell knowing a large percentage of your customers are teens,” the woman wrote.

“You do realise young teenage girls shop in your stores right? You do realise that many mothers (including not-yet mothers) have gone through countless & expensive IVF procedures in order to achieve a positive result on a REAL pregnancy stick.”

But she removed it after she received a backlash.

“I never expected that posting my opinion would attract comments like ‘I hope your baby dies’, or ‘maybe you should do your shopping online from the kitchen where you belong’,” she said.

“I only spoke up because I saw it was wrong. Right now there would be some sensitive men and women about as the government has proposed changes to IVF, making it even more expensive and harder to access, which makes this ‘joke’ product all the more insensitive.”

City Beach said it would remove the product from all its stores, adding that it was not their intention to cause offence.
