Dad dies after son’s one-punch hit

A chance meeting with his estranged son has left a Brisbane man dead.

The man who was knocked unconscious by one punch from his estranged son in Brisbane’s CBD on Monday has died in hospital.

Police claim Mark McGrice, 53, was walking down the street with his partner when he bumped into his estranged son Morgan Alexander Isles-English, 25.

The pair, who had reportedly not seen each other for four years, allegedly had a brief verbal altercation before Isles-English punched his father once in the face, knocking him to the ground and leaving him in a coma. McGrice was taken to Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, but died last night.

Hours earlier, Isles-English had appeared in Brisbane Magistrates Court, breaking down in tears as he faced charges of grievous bodily harm. This charge has now been upgraded to unlawful striking causing death.

Isles-English was very distressed throughout his brief court appearance, pacing the dock, screaming ‘I love you mum’ to a woman in the gallery and repeatedly asking if his father had awoken from his coma yet.

He was remanded in jail and the matter has been adjourned until next month.
