Boy stabbed with scissors by elderly man on Sydney train

The alleged attacker is believed to have dropped a pair of scissors as he left the train station before police arrived.

A teenage boy has been taken to hospital after he was stabbed in the back with a pair of scissors by an elderly man on a train in Sydney’s west overnight, police say.

Shortly after midnight, emergency services were called to Doonside Railway Station following reports that a teenage boy had been stabbed while aboard a train.

A NSW Police spokeswoman said the 14-year-old boy and the man, thought to be aged in his 60s, who did not know each other, become involved in a verbal exchange around midnight.

It is not known what the pair were discussing but the disagreement quickly turned violent.

As the train approached Doonside, the man allegedly pulled out a pair of scissors and stabbed the boy in the back.

He was treated at the scene before being taken to Westmead’s Children’s Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The boy’s alleged attacker is believed to have dropped a pair of scissors as he left the train station before police arrived.

Police have described the man as Caucasian in appearance, with grey receding hair and a grey short beard. He was wearing a dark jacket, long shorts, a white collared shirt, and dark boots.

Anyone with information about the identity of the man has been urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
