Aunt sues 12-year-old nephew for breaking her wrist

She is seeking $127,000 in damages for suffering a broken wrist when the two fell to the ground.

A very strange aunt from New York is suing her 12-year-old nephew because he accidentally broke her wrist when he leapt into her arms to tell her he loved her.

The New York Daily News reports that Jennifer Connell, 54, believes her nephew, Sean, who was eight at the time, “should have known better than to jump into her arms as a means of welcoming her to his birthday party in 2011.”

She is seeking $127,000 in damages for suffering a broken wrist when the two fell to the ground.

“The aunt, who has no children of her own, said her life has not been the same” since her nephew rushed toward her, shouting: “Auntie Jen, Auntie Jen.”

“All of a sudden he was there in the air, I had to catch him and we tumbled onto the ground,” Connell testified.

“I remember him shouting, ‘Auntie Jen I love you,’ and there he was flying at me.”

Sean, whose mother died last year, appeared confused as he sat with his father, Michael, in court, reports The New York Daily News.

Connell told the jury she didn’t complain about her injury at the time because “it was his birthday party and I didn’t want to upset him,” but she noted that the broken wrist upended her busy life.

“We all know how crowded it is in Manhattan,” she said.

Also: “I was at a party recently, and it was difficult to hold my hors d’oeuvre plate.”

The aunt says the child “should still be liable and understand that his actions have consequences.”
