Lolly lovers, look away now. Your childhood favourites are about to be axed by Australian confectionary giant, Allen’s, and some classics are in the mix.
Allen’s announced recently that they would be discontinuing crowd favourites Spearmint Leaves, Marella jubes and – gasp – Green Frogs.
But don’t panic just yet, red frogs are (at the moment) safe from the falling axe.
Among the other list of lollies on their way out are Butter Menthols Kids, Mini Violet Crumbles and Jelly Tots.
A 90s classic, Killer Pythons, are also getting the cut. But, luckily, that would be cut in half, not from the shelves. The snakes are due for a slim down from 47g to 24g. Redskins are also in for a downsize, going from 15g to 11g.
Don’t worry, Killer Pythons, we think you’re the perfect size.
These (devastating) changes have been attributed to “streamlining the portfolio”, and cutting unpopular products.
“We have streamlined the portfolio, deleting Spearmint Leaves and Green Frogs because they weren’t popular and sales had been slowing dropping off over time. We were selling one Green Frog to every 10 Red Frogs,” a Allen’s spokesperson told news.com.au.
The spokesperson also confirmed that a range of their artificially blue lollies, like cars and snakes, will be temporarily changed to purple until Allen’s can find a ‘natural blue colorant’.
Goodbye, delicious green frogs, we hardly knew ye.
