After moving away from the beach to a suburb right on the edge of a national park, I was ready for a little calm in my life – and I wanted my living room to reflect that.

I wanted to create an earthy space that felt at home amongst the trees, so I turned to warm browns, natural textures and some clever pieces from Fantastic Furniture to create a room that’s cosy, practical and, most importantly, somewhere I actually want to spend time.

Here’s how I brought it all together with pieces from Fantastic Furniture.

Start with a sofa you want to sink into

The Xander incliner chaise was the starting point for my room – it’s rich brown tones tie everything together without the space feeling too heavy, and I love the obvious texture that the fabric had.

The sofa is also seriously deep, which makes it incredibly comfy for everyone – kids and dogs included – to curl up on. And the built-in power point is such a clever addition.

I paired it with my dream chair, the Hug swivel armchair in cream. It’s huge and soft, and the fact that it swivels means you can angle yourself towards anything happening in the room.

“Honestly, I wish I’d had this chair when my children were babies. It would have been the perfect spot for those night feeds!”

Add a little glamour

Next came the Cresta Side Table and matching Cresta coffee table with its travertine look. Its sleek finish adds a touch of glamour and anchors the space without being too showy, elevating the warmer, more relaxed feel of the room.

Of course, it also needs to be practical. The space underneath is perfect for storing books, magazines and, most importantly, the remote control!

Mix soft curves with sharper lines

Accent pieces can really help pull a room together, and I wanted to add some clean  lines to give the space a contemporary edge.

Among all the curves of the sofa, chaise and coffee table, the Alto floor lamp in black added definition without taking all the attention away. I love how the contrasting black lines keep the warm, cosy room feeling modern and chic.

Bring the outdoors in

One of my main priorities for this room was to bring some of the greenery that now surrounds my house, indoors. A hanging plant naturally draws your eye upwards making the ceiling feel taller, and fits in perfectly with the earthy feel in the room.

TIP:  Greenery can instantly make a space feel more relaxed and connected to the outdoors.

Don’t forget texture

I love the texture of a jute rug underfoot. It’s almost like getting a mini foot massage every time you walk on it! The natural weave works perfectly with the rest of the room. It feels chic without being overdone, while the neutral colour ties everything together without overpowering the space.

This is my dream space, and I wish I could spend every afternoon here!
