The Grammy’s are just about to kick off and while the night is meant to be about music, the style-savvy stars usually ensure fashion steals the show.
In 2013 CBS, the network broadcasting the ceremony, tried to tone down the flesh factor and issued an official “wardrobe advisory” for music’s night of nights. The memo instructed that “buttocks and female breasts [be] adequately covered” though that didn’t stop some performers from daring to bare all at on the red carpet.
While fashion fans prepare to cringe at the sight of some of music’s most talented flashing their flesh in ever-more tacky ways, let’s not forget there have been some serious style hits among those misses.
While debate rages between what we deem gorgeous and gaudy, let’s take a look back at the looks that have hit a high note and the others that have fallen flat.
Some of the best and worst Grammys red carpet looks.
One of the best! Jennifer Lopez was the talk of Tinseltown in this flesh-flashing Versace frock she rocked on the red carpet in 2000 when she attended the awards show on the arm of P Diddy.
Well it could have been a hit: Gwyneth Paltrow was looking very much the rock star’s wife in 2009 wearing this mini Versace sparkler but those opaque tights shouldn’t have made it out of the limo.
Dressing like a winner: Country crooner Taylor Swift cleaned up at the 2010 Grammys, winning four awards while dressed in a dazzling navy Kaufman Franco gown.
Camo got a sparkly makeover in 2001 when Destiny’s Child stepped out in these three shockers.
Bronzed goddess Beyoncé rocked the red carpet in this elegant Elie Saab gown in 2006. Dressed to impress, we think it’s one of her best looks ever.
Red hot! Shakira’s hips certainly didn’t lie in this fiery Carolina Herrera gown that she rocked at the 2007 awards.
Beyoncé looks like an ice-cream dream in this pastel yellow gown in 2008.
Rihanna looked like an angel in this green Roberto Cavalli gown in 2007.
Whitney Houston wasn’t winning fashion awards in this number.
Queen of Pop her Madgesty Madonna looked a tad under-dressed and over-buffed in this sporty outfit.
Sweet as sugar: Lea Michele looked like a darling in this Romona Keveza feather frock in 2010. The Glee star’s Fendi bag and Lorraine Schwartz jewellery helped cap off the polished look.
