Why we should all take notice of Jill Biden’s fashion choices – more so than Melania Trump’s

The presidential candidate's wife makes her own, unique statement.

When you place Melania Trump and Jill Biden next to each other, it’s like looking at two ends of a spectrum.

We’ve got Melania, whose silent, stagnant, striking appearances leave audiences with little more than to vehemently unpack her routinely extravagant outfits.

Then we’ve got Jill, whose outspoken, advocating nature rings loud and clear alongside her husband Joe Biden.

Refreshingly, instead of letting her outfits speak for her, Jill’s ensembles simply compliment her – and it’s worth taking note of.

Whilst Melania wears outfits that tend to shock, rather than inspire (anyone else remember that ‘don’t care’ Zara jacket?), Jill wears outfits that are subtle, yet striking to amplify her presence.

That’s why we thought it pertinent to round up some of her most memorable fashion moments – and nope, they haven’t all just happened this year as her husband Joe Biden tackled the campaign trail while Trump did so himself with Melania.

Keep scrolling to see exactly why Jill Biden’s fashion choices deserve more (and more and more…) air time than Melania’s throughout her time as First Lady of the United States – for an entirely different reason.

Let’s start with one of our favourite looks on her to date – this gorgeous floral Dolce & Gabbana dress, which was complimented by a matching face mask. Jill opted for the striking, yet modest look for the final US presidental debate in October 2020.

The necklace! The satin cami! The oversized blazer! Everything about this outfit screams chic and we’re vibing with it.

Pink

This pink dress was also a winner as husband Joe delivered a statement following the Electoral College Vote Certification.

Election coverage

From the very beginning, she and her husband have set an example in wearing face masks where necessary as they delved into the campaign trail. Jill’s chic white coat here, which she was seen wearing on election day 2020 was also a sight to behold.

Jill & Kamala

We love Jill’s collection of COVID-friendly face masks almost as much as we love her and US Vice President candidate Kamala Harris campaigning together.

Debate Night dress 2

We were also big fans of this satin dress designed by Gabriela Hearst, not least for what it represented – it was a re-purposed style first worn by Jill back in 2017, and again earlier in the year for her appearance on MSNBC. Recycled fashion at its finest.

Pink dress

Jill also rocks pink (or lilac, more accurately) like a pro. We loved this chic, modest style on her as she and Joe attended a virtual convention in August 2020.

Deep jewel-toned greens seem to suit Jill, and it looks like she’s got quite the bracelet collection to boot. She’s pictured here on the campaign trail in September 2020.

Rally 2019

During a rally in 2019, Jill rocked monochrome chic in this peplum-inspired get-up.

2017 Tony Awards

In 2017, Jill, who was the Second Lady of the United States at the time, presented at the Tony Awards in this striking red frock – it was a sure sign of some strong fashion moments to come…

Oscars

In 2016, Jill attended the Oscars in a, well, Oscar-worthy dress – and her daughter Ashley looked just as chic.

Blue ball dress

And we can’t forget this heavenly blue dress she wore for the Comander-in-Chief’s Inaugural Ball at the Walter Washington Convention Center back in 2013.

2013

Oh, and we can’t forget the knee-grazer boots Jill is so clearly fond of – and for a good reason. We’re getting Duchess Meghan vibes here…

Like her favourite jewel green, Jill can also rock a red dress like a pro. She looked stunning in this strapless red gown for the Southern Regional Ball at DC Armory in 2009.

1988 Democratic presidential nomination

We’ll leave you with a throwback that proves Jill’s on point fashion choices are nothing new – back in 1988, she was just getting stated as her husband’s strong (and stylish) support – how good was this golden ensemble? Long live Jill’s simple, yet significant wardrobe!
