Connie Johnson leaves hospice care for charity

Even though she was feeling even more exhausted than usual due to an infection, Connie wasn't missing an opportunity to be with her fans and raise money for cancer research.

Just days after sharing pictures of her final days in hospice care, Connie Johnson has broken out of the facility to do even more fundraising for her charity, Love Your Sister.

Despite feeling exhausted because of an infection, Connie visited fans at Canberra’s Questecon museum where artist Marie Ramos was running the Heart As Big As Yours art project for Connie’s charity.

Taking to Instagram yesterday, the 40-year-old mum-of-two captioned her another wide-smiled picture: “About to break out of the hospice now. I’m on my way. Can’t wait to see Marie and all the villagers.”

Connie, who has been battling cancer on and off since the age of 11, made the unbelievably difficult decision to forgo more treatment earlier this year following her final diagnosis: this round of cancer is terminal.

Last month, Connie’s brother, actor Samuel Johnson, posted a heartbreaking update of Connie’s condition on Facebook, revealing that she would be, indeed, entering hospice care.

“Con’s needed a lot of quiet time lately to try and comprehend the total headf*ckery that ‘actively dying’ brings,” he wrote.

“No phones, no social media – all too overwhelming right now. She just rang from the hospice (her view pictured) and admitted that this is the most difficult thing she’s ever had to face, but in true Connie style she’s been colouring in to keep the nasty thoughts at bay! She said to tell you that there’s life in the old dog yet.”

“She’s as comfortable as can be and is being cared for superbly.”

Since then, Connie has remained all smiles, spending time colouring in and enjoying time with those she loves most: her family, friends and, as seen this weekend, her fans.

We’re thinking of Connie, Samuel and their friends and family during this hard time.
