The mystery thriller series High Country is taking a firm spot in your watchlist this year, bringing a wave of Aussie talent to the small screen.

Acclaimed director Kevin Carlin – the brains behind Wentworth – has taken the helm for five of the episodes as establishing director, with Beck Cole (We Are Still Here, Deadloch) having scripted one episode and directed three.

“With some of the country’s most impressive creative forces, High Country is a compelling story, full of intrigue that will showcase the rugged landscape of the Victorian Alps, and we can’t wait to bring it to Australian viewers,” Binge executive director, Alison Hurbert-Burns said.

What is High Country about?

The eight-part mystery thriller revolves around detective Andrea (Andie) Whitford, who is transferred to the Victorian High Country to uncover the mystery of five missing people who have vanished into the wilderness.

“Through an edge-of-the-seat, high-stakes investigation, Andie uncovers a complex web involving murder, deceit, and revenge,” the official synopsis reads.

Who is cast in High Country?

Acclaimed actress Leah Purcell AM (Wentworth, Drover’s Wife: The Legend of Molly Johnson), international star Ian McElhinney (Game of Thrones, Derry Girls), and celebrated actors Sara Wiseman (Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, A Place to Call Home) and Aaron Pedersen (Mystery Road, Jack Irish) star in this series.

Joining them are Linda Cropper, Henry Nixon, Luke McKenzie, Matt Domingo and Geoff Morell.

Newcomer Pez Warner also stars in the series, as well as Pedrea Jackson, Leah Vandenberg, Nathaniel Dean, Jamie Timony, Annie Chiswell and more.
