Tim Robards reveals why baby number two with wife Anna Heinrich is so “different” this time around

“It's just going to hit us all of a sudden.”

If there’s one thing about Tim Robards, he’s not slowing down any time soon. The former The Bachelor Australia star, and more recently, former SAS Australia recruit, is continuing to push himself to the limit, in more ways than one.

For starters, Tim has been busy preparing for baby number two with his wife Anna Heinrich, as well as continuing to be a doting dad to his first-born Elle, who only just turned three last month.

“Anna’s doing most of the work at the moment, but we’re so busy with Elle, and she’s just an absolute ratbag at three now,” he laughs. “We haven’t really had much time to prepare.”

Certainly a different experience from when they were expecting their first, the soon-to-be parents of two are yet to fully wrap their heads around another “coming very soon”.

“It’s different, for the first one at this stage you’re so excited and nervous and ready and just anticipating. Whereas at the moment we’re just so busy, we haven’t even had time to think about it,” he says.

“I think it’s just going to hit us all of a sudden and the next minute we’ve got two kids. So it’s a very different second time around.”

But that’s not all Tim has his hands full with at the moment, as when we catch up with him it’s under the sweltering sun of a 38-degree day in Bondi for the release of The Reacher season two – a series he was almost a part of.

“I auditioned for The Reacher as Jack Reacher in the original, and then season two, which is coming out on Friday, I auditioned for his mate from the military,” Tim says.

“And I got down to the last couple of people for that role. So I was only basically a few people off being in this series as an actor,” he laughs.

In celebration of the release of The Reacher season two, Tim joined several Aussies down at Bondi Beach to host a Reacher-inspired fitness challenge on a bespoke outdoor gym – inspired by the training Alan Ritchson did to get in shape for the series.

And, comparing it to his own training he did for SAS Australia – where he also trained Anna for her season the year prior – Tim says it’s all quite similar.

“In this series, there’s one thing to say about Alan Ritchson, and it’s that he has to look big. If he’s going to put on the general size he’s going do more bodybuilder-type stuff,” he explains.

“But you’ll see that you still want to look functional to the role. If you are just big and bulky, but you can’t move then you are going to look silly in the fight scenes. Or if you need to climb up a wall or down a rope or the military stuff, you need to be ready for everything.”

The key to this is balance, of course. A decent mix of strength training, cardio and mobility will do the trick – all of which Tim practices himself.

“I look at myself as a bit of a hybrid animal these days. I like to do a mixture of strength stuff but also work on mobility and flexibility. Get your yoga in and then get the cardio stuff in,” he says.

“Having the ability to do whatever whenever, if say, an asteroid was to hit or something, and you need to look after yourself, I want to be able to. I think that’s the way to survive. You need to be fit in all areas.”

Fans will be able to see such for themselves with the release of The Reacher season two, starring Alan in the title role of Jack Reacher, when it premieres on Prime Video with the first three episodes on December 15.

New episodes will be released each Friday, leading up to the season finale on January 19, with season one currently available to stream now on Prime Video.
