The Block’s Kyle and Leslie this week break down in tears in one of the reality series’ most emotional scenes ever.
“It was our toughest week yet,” Kyle, 36, tells TV WEEK.
While filming The Block, Kyle has been apart from their sons Luca, 11, and Archer, seven, back in Perth, with Leslie returning to visit only once.
“We were chatting to the boys on the phone and that’s when Luca said he was struggling [with us being away]. He was crying before bed and not sleeping. It was really hard to hear.”
This week is Master Bedroom and Walk-in Wardrobe Week, where issues with their windows prove a setback for House 1, adding to the stress.
“It just hit us all at once,” Leslie, 35, reveals. “We were reminding ourselves we’re doing this for them and praying the whole thing will be worth it.”
With their parents away, Archer – who was diagnosed with autism when he was two – and Luca’s routines shifted.
Leslie is an educational assistant at her boys’ school, so has gone from morning drop-offs, “midday ‘hellos’ over the fence” and afternoon pick-ups to not seeing them for months on end.
“I’ve always been there,” she says. “And Kyle is always with them when they’re doing their homework.”
Leslie says Archer has been “resilient” in their absence, but it’s hit Luca hard.
“I kept telling him, ‘I’m 35 and I’ve never been away from my parents for three months, so you’re doing a really great job,'” she says.
Despite not being with their boys making it “so hard to keep going” on The Block, the couple persevere, with Kyle saying their reunion with the kids was going to be “a really incredible experience”.
