Bride and Prejudice fans have been left in shock following the sudden death of one of its stars, Micah Downey.

And while the cause of Micah’s death wasn’t immediately known, The Daily Telegraph are now reporting drugs are believed to have played a role in his passing.

The publication reported that according to Micah’s drug counsellor Jodi Barber, “a mixture of illegal and prescription drugs were the reason for Downey’s death.”

Micah’s ex, Milly Johnson, announced Micah’s death on Tuesday, revealing he had passed away on December 28.

Milly and Micah, who were still together during filming, appeared prominently on the 2019 season of the Channel Seven reality show. Although they have since split, Milly is pregnant with the couple’s second child.

“It is so sad & unbelievably surreal that I am making this post 😣” she wrote on Instagram.

“On the 28 December 2019 Micah Patrick Downey passed away. I am struggling to put into words how sad & heartbreaking this is 💔”

She added: “I just hope he is at peace wherever he is & that he will always be watching over his babies 🙏🏼 A bad, bad dream. I can’t believe you’re not here. Rest In Peace Micah.”

Micah and Milly took part in the show as they attempted to gain support from Milly’s mother for their relationship.

Milly’s mother Catherine was concerned about Micah’s destructive behaviour and drug problem, and in a resurfaced clip from the show, Catherine admits she doesn’t think Micah can be saved.

“You’re sad now, but you’re better off,” Catherine warns her daughter. “You know you’re not his saviour. Honey, you’re not going to save him,”

Channel Seven said the network was saddened by the news of Micah’s death.

“The team at Bride and Prejudice is devastated by the news of the loss of Micah Downey,” Channel Seven said in a statement.

“Our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with his family and friends at this incredibly difficult time.”
