Greetings and salutations! Teenage angst bullsh-t once again has a body count as the controversial reboot of Heathers prepares to gently rev up a chainsaw on Stan this week.

To celebrate, we look back, and forward, at the cast who take on the main players…

Veronica Sawyer – Winona Ryder

The only member of the Heathers who isn’t a Heather, Veronica is begrudgingly one of the cool kids despite the fact she knows it makes her a horrible person.

Winona Ryder was the go-to actress for quirky Goth types and oddball outsiders in Beetlejuice, Heathers, Mermaids and Bram Stoker’s Dracula. Then she fell out of favour until Stranger Things saw her returning to her ’80s glory.

Veronica Sawyer is now played by Grace Victoria Cox.

J.D. – Christian Slater

Super-cool outsider with a proclivity for long jackets, sounding like Jack Nicolson and explosives.

Christian Slater was the coolest kid in town in films like Pump Up The Volume, Heathers and the Quentin Tarantino-scripted True Romance and recently he took home a Golden Globe for his performance in the role of Mr. Robot in… Mr. Robot.

J.D. is now played by James Scully.

Heather Duke – Shannen Doherty

She may be the quiet Heather, but behind the timid bookworm veneer, Heather Duke has her eyes on the prize—the red hairtie.

Following Heathers, Doherty landed her breakthrough role as Brenda Walsh in Beverly Hills 90210, before witching it up in Charmed. She also starred in Kevin Smith’s Mallrats and played herself in Jay And Silent Bob Strike Back. In recent years the actress has been hit by illness, but look out for a cameo in the new Heathers. But as who?

Heather Duke is now played by Brendan Scannell.

Heather Chandler – Kim Walker

The leader of the most popular and powerful clique at Westerburg High, she wears the red hairtie with pride. One small fact, everyone is terrified of her.

Despite roles in Heathers and Cameron Crowe’s Say Anything starring John Cusack, her career never lived up to the potential of her early roles. She died in 2001 of a brain tumour.

Heather Chandler is now played by Melanie Field.

Heather McNamara – Lisanne Falk

The head cheerleader at Westerburg High, Heather McNamara is Veronica Sawyers’s only real friend in the Heathers.

After Heathers, Falk joined Kim Walker in Say Anything. She also took a part in Jim Jarmusch’s Night On Earth and other small roles, but her career finished in 1998.

Heather McNamara is now played by Jasmine Matthews.

Heathers series will premiere on September 28th on Stan, with the original movie also available to stream now.
