Congratulations are in order for Neighbours star Takaya Honda, who tied the knot with his long-term partner Amy Schwab in Byron Bay over the weekend.

After having to postpone their original wedding date earlier in the year due to the pandemic, the couple finally tied the knot at the luxury accommodation Sundays At Byron, which overlooks the picturesque hinterlands, followed by a reception at the Byron at Byron, a Crystalbrook Collection Resort.

The actor, who plays David Tanaka on Neighbours, took to Instagram to share a beautiful first-look video from his special day – and it’s fair to say their celebration was nothing short of rom-com worthy romantic.

“You have never been a question. You have always been an answer. Life never feels like an if but a when with you,” Takaya tells Amy in their emotional wedding vows.

“For me home is not a particular place. It it whenever I am with you. Takaya, you make life so special. And there’s no one else I want to be walking this path with,” she responds.

Takaya cut a stylish figure in a light grey suit with a white shirt and a floral lapel pin.

Amy looked stunning in a flowing V-neck white gown with lace detailing around the bodice. She wore her blonde locks out in a tousled beach curl with a white headpiece.

For the couple’s wedding cake, they picked the letters of their names, A & T, and had a vegan, gluten-free vanilla creation with a raspberry coulis filling covered in aquafaba Swiss meringue buttercream, handmade vegan macarons and topped with fresh fruit and flowers.

The show-stopping dessert was made by Millie’s Of Newrybar.

Takaya proposed to Amy in May 2019 at their favourite holiday destination – Byron Bay.

“I wasn’t exactly nervous, because with Amy and myself, it’s never been a question of ‘if’, so thankfully I went into the proposal thinking I knew what the answer would be. I don’t know how anyone does it otherwise,” the 33-year-old told New Idea at the time.

In 2018, the actor made history after starring in the nation’s first same-sex marriage on TV alongside Aaron Brennan (Matt Wilson).

“In this instance, being the first same-sex marriage in Aussie television history means that there won’t have to be other ‘firsts’ with this. Hopefully it becomes part of the mainstream, and we will no longer have to talk about it being a same-sex marriage, it just becomes a marriage,” he told Now To Love at the time.

“To be part of something that can create significant cultural change is in itself greatly significant and I am so proud of that.”
