Thousands of people are heading back to work after the Christmas and New Year period, but one royal couple have managed to extend their holiday.

While their royal relatives are back to business in the chilly British winter, Zara and Mike Tindall attended the Pacific Fair Magic Millions Polo on the Gold Coast and were spotted walking hand in hand at the event on Sunday afternoon.

The polo is the first event of the week-long Star Gold Coast Magic Millions Carnival and the Queen’s granddaughter, who has represented her country at the Olympics in various equestrian events, also played in the charity polo match against Argentinian professional polo player Nacho Figueras and his former champion athlete wife Delfina Blaquier.

Despite winning a silver medal at the London 2012 Olympics, Zara Tindall was the only amateur polo player on the field. Though her team mate, former Australian polo team captain Rob Archibald, who organised the games remarked that the royal had a cheeky side.

“She is very good at reminding me if I am not playing very well,” he joked, according to The Daily Telegraph.

The couple attended the Magic Millions event last year, though Zara was pregnant at the time with daughter Lena so she couldn’t participate.

Zara and Mike’s two daughters, Mia, four and Lena, seven months, were presumably left at home, though we have no doubts they will be following in their parents’ sporting footsteps in the near future.

In June 2018, Zara revealed that she suffered a second miscarriage, “really early on” in her pregnancy before falling pregnant with Lena.

“I think you need to go through a time where you don’t talk about it because it’s too raw,” the former Olympian told the Sunday Times Magazine.

“But as with everything, time’s a great healer.”

In 2017, Mike revealed that the couple’s “saving grace” was their eldest daughter, Mia.

“However down we feel she will come running up in our faces,” he told The Sunday Times.

Australia holds a special place in the Tindalls’ hearts.

The couple met in 2003 at Sydney’s Manly Wharf Bar when Zara was having a drink with her cousin Prince Harry who was in the country for the Rugby World Cup. When he spotted his friend and English rugby player Mike Tindall, the red-headed royal introduced them.

Speaking to 60 Minutes, Zara reveals, “It kind of went from there.”

Speaking about the Magic Millions event in 2017, Zara said, “To come to Australia once a year in summer for this race is even better. This is the country I always loved touring the most – I love the people and the laid-back lifestyle. And the sun.”

“I like the Aussie sense of humour, full stop. It’s all about giving people a hard time!”
