Prince Harry has reacted to the sudden and heartbreaking death of his godmother, Lady Celia Vestey, who died aged 71 this week.

The Duke of Sussex, who is currently residing in the US with wife Duchess Meghan and his one-year-old son Archie, has had a turbulent year in the lead up to Christmas, but his love for his family and friends is ever clear – especially considering his reaction to the tragic news.

In a new report from HELLO!, the Duke shared his condolences with his godmother’s children.

It claims he contacted them in private to express his sadness.

The news was confirmed in UK paper the Daily Telegrpah, with a dedication reading: “Celia Elizabeth SRN BA. Died suddenly, but peacefully, on Saturday 28th November, aged 71 years. Adored wife of Sam. Much loved mother of William, Arthur and Mary and loving Granny of Ella, Frankie, Sam and Cosima.”

The Duke’s godmother had often been spotted alongside The Queen and other royal family members, particularly at Cheltenham given her husband was the Royal Household’s Master of the Horse from 1999 to 2018.

Celia is one of six godparents Harry was given at his christening in 1984.

The others include Prince Andrew, Lady Sarah Chatto (the daughter of Princess Margaret), Carolyn Bartholomew, who was his mother Princess Diana’s former flatmate, and British artist Bryan Organ.

There’s no doubt the Duke shares a special bond with all of his godparents, and will be grieving the sudden loss of Celia.

Celia was a close family friend of the royals.

Harry and Meghan are currently staying put in the US as the COVID-19 pandemic continues.

It is also understood the pair will remain there for the Christmas period, spending the festive season with their son and possibly Meghan’s mother, Doria Ragland who is based in LA and not far from their Santa Barbara home.

We hope that despite a rocky pair for the couple, they still have a joyful Christmas together.
