Catherine, the Princess of Wales born on January 9, has celebrated her 41st birthday today in the United Kingdom, with a special tradition that hasn’t taken place in years.

Known for her grace and poise, it is no surprise that Catherine has been honoured on the special day as the bells at Westminster Abbey to be rung.

The tradition is exclusively reserved for the birthdays of senior working royals including King Charles, Prince William and Camilla, Queen Consort.

It was previously announced the bells would only ring for the birthdays of Queen Elizabeth II and at-the-time Prince Charles, but the allowance has altered given the change in succession.

“The Abbey bells can be heard ringing out before services and in celebration of church festivals … The bells have also traditionally been rung to mark the birthdays of senior members of The Royal Family,” a Westminster Abbey representative explained.

It is an honour that was not granted in 2022 and has not been since 2020 due to financial complications related to the coronavirus pandemic.

In tribute, King Charles and Camilla, Queen Consort shared a heartfelt image of Catherine’s first visit to Wales with her husband, Prince William in September to the royal family’s Instagram account.

“Wishing The Princess of Wales a very Happy Birthday today!” the caption read.

Catherine also received plenty of birthday wishes from military groups and charities in which she serves as a patron, including the Irish Guards, Scouts, National Portrait Gallery and Place2Be.

The Royal Air Force Air Cadets reshared King Charles and Camilla, Queen Consorts birthday tribute on Twitter with a touching message of their own.

“Wishing our Royal Patron and Honorary Air Commandant of the Royal Air Force Air Cadets, the Princess of Wales @KensingtonRoyal a very Happy Birthday today,” it read.

The Princess of Wales was appointed Honorary Air Commandant of the Air Cadets in late 2015 after Prince Philip handed over the position to reduce the number of patronages he was associated with. It was her first royal responsibility linked to the military.
