As patron of the Magic Millions Carnival, Zara Tindall makes an annual trip down under, and 2024 will mark her twelfth year as the ambassador.

Ahead of her trip, Zara recalls precious memories with her grandmother, the late Queen Elizabeth II, and spoke about how grateful she is to have had her grandmother in her life for so long.

“When you’ve got someone who’s a huge influence in your life [it leaves a hole] … all of us are so lucky to have had her for so long. You always think when you’re little your grandparents are ancient when they’re not that old. When you get to be an adult, then they are old, so we were very lucky to have her that long, and to have our children, her great-grandchildren, have that influence as well was incredible. It was a very precious time and we’re hugely grateful for it.”

Zara also said she was always supported by her grandmother in her love and passion for horses.

“I remember being around horses a lot when we used to go and see her. She rode; grandfather was also involved with the horses, whether it was polo or carriage driving. And if we did anything pony-wise she’d come and watch and be really supportive. She very much knew what was going on in my career as I was growing up. And it was very much her happy place being with the horses. You got to see her real passion and love for the horses and that side of her.”

The Australian Magic Millions festival is very special to Zara as she gets to showcase the world of horses to a new audience. She also gets to experience an Australian summer every year which isn’t too bad either!

Magic Millions has “expanded hugely,” explains Zara. “We’ve got more ambassadors on board now – including Elsa Pataky [model/ actress wife of Chris Hemsworth]” she says.

Zara met her now-husband, Mike Tindall in Australia 20 years ago, so the country acts as a second home for the couple.

“We’ve said numerous times if we weren’t living in England, we’d love living there,” says Mike.

The Tindalls also spoke about their relationship with Zara’s cousin, Prince William and Princess Catherine, revealing that they often hang out together. Zara believes competitiveness runs in the family, and there’s usually a game involved when the two families catch up.

“Our kids play with their kids in this competition we have,” says Mike.
