Courageously Colby: Why Home and Away’s top cop is the unsung hero of Summer Bay

What a legend.

Loveable, well-meaning local cops are regular fixtures on Home and Away.

Yep, we’ve seen a flurry of iconic police men and women dominate the sandy shores of Summer Bay over the years.

There was the misunderstood Jack Holden, the charismatic Charlie Buckton and then more recently, the beloved Kat Chapman.

There’s a concerning recurring theme here – because all three of these glorious coppers were killed off the show.

Yep, the scenes were just a tad traumatic. We won’t be forgetting Kat’s catastrophic car accident, or Charlie’s tragic ending at the hands of the deplorable Jake Pirovic any time soon.

But we must remember that the show is fictional, so given this, we can justify one lingering silver lining to the rather high turnover of Summer Bay police staff – and that, dear reader, is the introduction of the next ogle-worthy copper.

Enter Colby Thorne, the Bay’s latest do-gooder, slash slightly misunderstood, slash can be a tad shifty, slash for the most part, is just an all-round legendary police officer.

Played by Aussie actor Tim Franklin, Colby has had his fair share of ups and downs since his arrival in The Bay back in 2018.

From a desperate search for his younger sister, to on-again-off-again relationships with several of the town’s stunning female residents, Colby has brought quite the narrative to prime time television, and we’re forever grateful for it.

To celebrate the ultimate Summer Bay cop, we decided to wrap up Colby’s best moments.

Keep scrolling for the Tim Franklin spectacle you never knew you needed.

Undercover

What’s better than an undercover policeman fighting the good fight? Only when the undercover policeman reveals himself as an actual policeman and becomes a Summer Bay regular. Colby did exactly that when he exploded onto screens in 2018, after helping fellow local Mason fight off the River Boys. And thus, it was love at first sight.

Colby

Of course, Home and Away would be nothing without a little plot twist here and there, are we right? Colby was soon revealed to have previously been a part of the River Boy gang (cue gasps). We’re not sure what could have possibly given him away, the trademark ‘Blood and Sand’ tattoo or chiselled washboard abs? Either is part and parcel – and boy are we grateful for the latter…

Police station

Luckily, it seemed the copper had turned a corner from his River Boy days. Again, we’re rather grateful for that decision – the man pulls off that uniform like no other.

Colby Bella

Another sub plot to Colby’s dramatic narrative is his desparate search to locate his sister, Bella, who had been kidnapped by his violent stepfather.

Colby Jasmine

Around the same time, Colby’s first big love interest comes into play. Enter Jasmine Delaney, played by the formidable Sam Frost, and the ultimate star-crossed lover. The pair have some ups and downs, and ultimately decide to have a casual relationship, before binning the whole thing. Jasmine then hooked up with the late Robbo… though something told us things might not be over between her and Colbs.

Colby Chelsea

Another day, another love interest in the life of Summer Bay’s resident cop. Chelsea Campbell entered the scene in 2018 in a whirlwind relationship that included a lot of secrets, a quick wedding and a very quick break up, when Chelsea discovered the Colby had actually killed his violent step father.

Colby Jasmine

What’d we tell you! Colby and Jasmine rekindled their romance in 2019, and though they didn’t make it official once again, things are still uncertain in this couple’s future – third time’s a charm?

Mackenzie Colby

And that’s not to say no one else has crossed Colby’s lurve radar – the copper eventually hooks up with bartender Mackenzie Booth. The pair have a tumultuous relationship, which so far hasn’t made the distance. Although knowing his track record with Jasmine, this mightn’t be the end for these two either…

Colby Leah

In more recent storylines, Colby has buried himself in Leah’s traumatic kidnapping case, which has left her struggling physically and mentally. Colby is determined to get to the bottom of things for the beloved cafe owner.

Colby Tori

He’ll probe, preach and search to the very end, if it’s to protect The Bay’s resident – and we can’t blame him, because there’s a reason why this troubled lot take refuge in the coastal town.

Colby’s world came crashing down when the murder he committed was finally exposed. Choosing to separate himself from his former life in Summer Bay and accept his fate, he told family & friends to stay away. Sob!
