Although Axle and Liezl are based back in Australia for now, the Aussie actor and singer spent seven years chasing the Hollywood dream in the US.

Despite scoring roles in acclaimed American series Shameless and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, Axle has been candid in the past about the struggle to make it overseas.

Speaking to The Daily Telegraph in 2017, Axle admitted he was left broke and worked as a waiter for a meagre wage as he tried to make ends meet.

Loved-up Axle and Liezl were dating for several years before the actor popped the question.

“I was back working for eight bucks an hour and tips. it had been a long time since I’d worked for eight bucks,” he told the publication.

“If any actor thinks they are going to arrive in LA and just make it happen they will be sorely mistaken”.

“You’ve got to do what you can to survive”.

Axle also previously admitted he wouldn’t rule out returning to Home and Away in the future.

“Never say never,” he said during an interview with TV WEEK in 2017. “I haven’t had the offer yet, but we’ll wait and see”.

Like many former Home And Away stars, Axle has nothing but praise for the popular Aussie drama.

“It’s such a successful show because it feels like a family,” Axle explained. “The crew is unlike any I’ve worked with − it’s such a family and they’re all bloody hard workers”.

“You spend 12 to 14 hours a day with these people – and once you become part of that family, you don’t have an ego. You just get the work done”.

A huge congrats to Axle and Liezl on their happy news!
