There’s one leggy creature that gets Shane Warne’s blood pumping for all the wrong reasons.
Spiders. We’re talking about spiders.
The former spin king is rumoured to be appearing as a contestant on next month’s I’m A Celebrity … Get Me Out of Here and the 46-year-old reportedly had producers write into his contract a “no-eating-spiders” clause, according to the Daily Mail.
The self-confessed arachnophobe wants to be nowhere near the eight-legged insects and the Mail hints that Warne wouldn’t have joined the second series of the Channel Ten show if they didn’t agree to his demands.
In 2014 the cricket super star declared his fears while doing an ad for UK-based online gambling company Sportingbet where he had to come face-to-face with a bird eating spider for a “challenge”.
“I’m actually not scared of anything. Except spiders. I can’t even get through the movie Arachnophobia, and I have tried four times.”
Shane will struggle then if he is indeed on the show.
I’m a Celebrity – which features 10 celebrities in the South African jungle – contestants are often put through ‘Tucker Trials’ to earn meals for camp – in the past they have been forced to get dunked in a pool of elephant dung, swathed in rats and chowed down on Warney’s favourite, live spiders.
Shane’s appearance on the show is yet to be confirmed. James Erskine who is Warne’s manager reportedly told Fairfax last week that his client hadn’t signed a deal with Ten and had turned down guest appearances on the show in the past two years.
Other rumoured contests are believed to be AFL legend Brendan Fevola, rocker Jimmy Barnes, Olympian Leisel Jones and TV personality Kris Smith.
Chrissy Swan, who came second in last year’s show said competing on the show was one of the hardest things she’s ever done.
“Our lives are easy and that show is properly hard. I lived outside for six weeks. That’s hard. There was no running water. No food.”
