“I am so excited to be working with Olivia Newton-John, one of my favourites of all time. We’ve kind of always stayed close through the years and I’m so proud to be a part of this duet project that she’s doing,” Dolly says.
Dolly originally wrote and released Jolene in 1974 and Olivia covered the song on her seventh studio album, Come On Over, released in 1976.
This new cover of the song with both Olivia and Dolly singing was recorded shortly before Olivia’s death.
A post made on the official Olivia Newton-John Instagram account announced the duet between the friends, and it was soon flooded with comments with fan’s positively responding to the release.
“There are no words for how great it is… It’s just.. beautiful!!! Ain’t gonna lie; I cried. Miss her so much!”, was one comment.
Another said, “This duet version is the best I have ever heard of “Jolene”. Olivia sweet, sweet angel and Dolly you nailed it. Should definitely be nominated for a Grammy in my opinion. Brought me to tears. The vocals were so beautiful and mesmerizing.”
The state memorial for ONJ is being hosted this Sunday the 26th of February, get all the details on it here.
