The 2021 reckoning in parliament over the way women are treated, which has been spearheaded by the brave work of Brittany Higgins and Grace Tame, has seen a massive shift in the zeitgeist to protect women from abuse.
Today Lisa took to her Instagram to pen a message supporting Grace and Brittany, who have spoken out against Prime Minister Scott Morrison’s keynote speech at the Australian Women’s Safety Summit.
The conference took place online over two days with the intention of creating policies to end violence against women and children.
Lisa reposted a picture previously uploaded by Grace of the girls posing together, and she captioned the moment with her hopeful message.
“This photo taken tonight of these two incredible, courageous women @brittanyhiggins___ and @tamepunk having their very own Safety Summit, makes me so happy….and hopeful for the future,” wrote Lisa.
“Bravo you two!! Love, strength and so much respect for all you both do. 👏👏👏💪🥂❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️,” she finished.
Australian of the Year Grace Tame spoke out against the PM’s speech by writing a Twitter post slamming his appearance.
“Scott has just finished his opening keynote address at the Women’s Safety Summit in which he appropriated private disclosures from survivors to leverage his own image.
“Gee, I bet it felt good to get that out,” she wrote.
Brittany Higgins also shared a Tweet to criticise the PM, and she wrote, “While, I respect the Prime Minister @ScottMorrisonMP’s ‘ambitious spirit’ for the National Women’s Security Summit 2021 – I just can’t match this Government’s actions with the platitudes and warm sentiments they are extending today.”
In the comment section of Lisa’s post, her followers shared a similar sentiment towards the government and the integrity of Grace and Brittany.
One fan wrote, “If the men in Parliament House had an ounce of the courage and integrity these two mighty women have, we’d be a lot better off!”
Another wrote. “Two women whose courage is an inspiration to every Australian. Keep powering on – we need you both right now to use your voices. 👏👏👏.”
