The 43-year-old Today show newsreader has two little ones, Bronte, eight, and Angus, six, and goes to great lengths to ensure they understand just how privileged they are.

“I want them to grow up with the knowledge of how lucky they are and respect the fact that not everyone has the same advantages,” Georgie tells the December issue of The Australian Women’s Weekly.

“I think that is a really important message at this time of year. Every year for the past few years, we have taken the children along to Operation Santa at the Target Christmas tree in our local store

“We sit down with Bronte and Angus, and talk about it before we go. I try to get them to think about what another child might like for Christmas. I give them $50 each and they get to choose a present and put it under the tree.

“And then, on Christmas morning, as we are opening our presents, we think about what it might be like for the person who is opening the presents that they chose.”

Georgie and her family have another important tradition that helps her kids remember what the festive season is really about – every Christmas morning, the whole clan heads to church.

“That means a lot to me and the rest of the family,” Georgie says. “Christmas isn’t Christmas without going to church and it helps reminds the kids that there is more to the season than just the presents under the tree.”
