An emotional and proud dad moment was caught on air as Today Show host Karl Stefanovic was brought to tears while talking about his eldest daughter, Ava Willow.

Stefanovic was discussing with his co-host the difficulties Victorian students are currently facing as they are recovering from the flood crisis.

Before they moved on to the next segment of the show, Stefanovic gave a shout-out to his daughter who had almost finished her HSC exams.

“I’m going to do an embarrassing dad thing; my daughter Ava is in year 12 and she’s almost finished her HSC,” he said.

He expressed on air how proud he was of her, and that she had done “incredibly well”.

“As a dad watching her work, do all the work that she’s done and the way she’s dealt with the pressures and the stress of Year 12, it makes my heart sing.

“I love you,” he said.

Karl, a father of four, has had an emotional year as he proudly watched Ava complete her final year of school.

Before Ava’s high school formal, the proud father could be seen getting emotional, which he made light of on his social media.

Ava, who goes by her middle name Willow, announced last year that she would like to have a career in the fashion industry.

She revealed in her first major photoshoot with Stellar magazine that she didn’t get her “fashionista gene” from her father but that he is supporting her in going into the modelling world.

“He backs me 100 per cent as long as I’m happy,” she said.

Karl said: “She doesn’t go into anything blindly, especially the fashion world. She’s a strong, independent young woman and wants to pursue lots of things in life. We love her spirit.”
