Denmark’s Prince Joachim is in hospital after suffering a blot clot to his brain over the weekend.

The Danish royal, aged 51, was operated on immediately following the incident in a hospital based in Toulouse, France.

According to a statement released following the operation, the procedure was successful, though the Prince remains hospitalised.

The youngest son of Queen Margrethe II and brother of Crown Prince Frederik, who is married to Crown Princess Mary, Joachim is said to be “stable”.

The palace also reportedly stated that the Prince “is doing well in the circumstances.”

They added that Joachim had been transferred to hospital via an ambulance at the time of the incident.

It is understood the Prince was holidaying in France at Cayx, which is a family-owned chateau in the south-west of the country.

The Palace explained it was “too early to say right now” as to how long the Prince would need to remain hospitalised for.

Married to Princess Marie, the 51-year-old has four children, the eldest two of whom he shares with his first wife, Alexandra, Countess of Frederiksborg.

His oldest son, Prince Nikolai is 20, while his second eldest son Felix just celebrated his 18th birthday.

He shares another son and daughter with Princess Marie, Prince Henrik, aged 11 and Princess Athena, aged eight.
