With the royal baby due any day now (seriously, we can’t wait for this kid to arrive!), speculation about what name Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan will choose for their little one has reached fever pitch.

And now a newly unearthed interview with Meghan has given us a serious hint as to what name she’d give Baby Sussex, if the couple have a daughter.

During a 2015 interview with HELLO! Canada, Meghan revealed that she had already bought an extravagant gift for her unborn child that she planned to hand down one day, if she has a daughter.

She bought an $8800 Cartier Tank Française watch to mark a special milestone and said one day it would be passed on as an heirloom.

“When I found out Suits had been picked up for our third season – which, at the time, felt like such a milestone – I totally splurged and bought the two-tone version [of the watch],” Meghan revealed in the unearthed interview.

But it was the message that Meghan had engraved on the back of the watch that gives a fascinating insight into her baby name preferences.

“I had it engraved on the back, ‘To M.M. From M.M.’ And I plan to give it to my daughter one day. That’s what makes pieces special, the connection you have to them,” Meghan said.

The “M.M” engraving would indicate Meghan intends to give her child a name beginning with the same letter as hers – M.

The obvious choice here would be Mary – a popular royal name.

While choosing a baby name is a mammoth task for any parent, it’s particularly stressful if you’re a royal.

Royals tend to stick to traditional names and like anything with the royal family, there’s always a lot of official opinion.

During her royal tour to Australia last October, Meghan revealed that she and husband Prince Harry had received a “long list” of options from royal advisers.

When asked by school students while riding a Melbourne tram if they had any baby names ready to go, Meghan replied: “We haven’t decided. We’ve been given a long list of names from everyone and we’re going to sit down and look at them, have a talk about it.”

Many royal watchers are convinced Meghan is having a girl, and official royal bookies believe the two frontrunners for royal baby names are Diana, an ode to Prince Harry’s late mother, and Elizabeth, after Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth.

Earlier this month, betting agency Coral announced they slashed the odds on the name Elizabeth, as a flurried increase of punters put their money on the royal couple choosing to honour the Queen.

Previously sitting at 16-1, the predictions that the royal baby’s namesake will be the Queen herself have been reduced to 6-1.

That pipped “Diana” off the top spot, which was the firm favourite among many up until now.

But the very non-traditional Meghan might prefer to go completely rogue and choose a very unique, non-royal name for her baby.

While she probably won’t go full Gwyneth Paltrow and pick a name like Apple or Moses, check out our list of unusual baby names that we think Meghan and Harry might pick if they choose to break from tradition.
