She may have been season favourite but when Brooke Blurton decided to pull the rug out from under the Honey Badger’s feet by spinning on her stiletto ahead of the rose ceremony and – gasp! – leaving, it wasn’t just her dramatic departure that left fans puzzling.

No, the general consensus was that particular emotion was better suited to the sudden unveiling of both Brooke and Nick’s artistic expertise. Say what?

Yeah, you read that right. On their supposedly hot date, the pair were seen daubing each other’s bodies with paint but instead of a few preschool-worthy blobs that viewers might have been expecting, what resulted was something that was um, actually quite good.

Corny maybe, but a whole lot better than anyone could have thought.

“I can sing a rainbow…”

Brooke began confidently with broad strokes of colour.

Which Nick copied. Of course he did.

What started off as undoubtedly amateur (think: bands of colour which might be charitably described as ‘”homage to a rainbow”), quickly showed themselves to be, just a few moments later, as… not bad at all.

OK, their finished efforts were the sort of background usually found on some inspirational birthday card your mum might send you but they were surprisingly adept all the same.

Picasso and Frida Kahlo as you’ve never seen them before.

Yeah, nah.

The fans weren’t buying it either. And they took to Twitter in their droves to call out this little “Paint by Numbers” interlude as a fake.

Bryce, you’re a sceptic (but correct).

Yes, yes they do want us to believe that, Janelle.

And if Bryce, Janelle et al are right (and I think we all know the answer to that), The Bachelor made full use of its artistic licence last night and someone, somewhere who actually does possess some creative flair has gone uncredited.

Step forward, bodypaint maestro and take a bow.

Even Brooke confessed that her sudden foray into the art world had not been all her own handiwork.

“We did a pretty good job but we did have some help,” she said.

Now that Brooke has eliminated herself from the competition (presumably to concentrate on her painting career), Nick is left to choose between the two last women standing, Brittany Hockley and Sophie Tieman.
