Contender Shaun has a lot to look forward to. The retired AFL player, who has been in a relationship with Aussie model Megan Gale for almost a decade, is finally getting married!

“It’ll likely be next year,” Shaun, 31, tells TV WEEK. “There’s just been so much on. Both of us are trying to find the time to focus on a wedding now that our lives are running smoothly. I can guarantee it’ll be very small and intimate.”

Last year, Megan – who has two children with Shaun – said the pair had “closed up the baby-making shop”. But Shaun says he’d “never say never” to having more children.

“We’re content, but you never know how you’ll feel in a year or two,” he says. “But at the same time, we’re both so grateful for what we have.”

In spite of his sporting achievements, Shaun came into Australian Survivor: Champions V Contenders as a Contender.

Shaun had a 12 year AFL career with Carlton and Richmond Football Clubs but the idea of competing as a ‘Champion’ – alongside the likes of Brownlow Medallist Simon Black – made him feel “uncomfortable”.

“The thought made me slightly uncomfortable,” he reveals. “While I had a lot of time in the system, I only played 98 games. I didn’t even reach 100. And I was injured for a lot of it and missed out on my team’s premiership win in 2017.”

Before adding: “I think it’s good to see that while I didn’t have a horrible career, not everybody who plays AFL comes away with medals clanking around their neck.”
