With a pretty drawing of what appears to be two colourful figures, the heartbreaking handwritten letter reads ‘I love you Mum. Love Sasha’.

Katrina, 38, was tragically killed while trying to defend her pregnant friend and colleague, Julie Taylor, during a 17-hour siege inside the Lindt cafe.

The well-known Sydney barrister was the younger sister of well-known defamation barrister Sandy Dawson. She leaves behind her husband, two daughters and son, all of whom are under the age of 10.

As Australians struggle to come to terms with the events of  the 17-hour siege, the victims and hostages of the siege have been remembered with a an extraordinary floral tribute at Martin Place.
