Woolworths under fire for ‘Fat Girl Scrub’

“Stop encouraging eating disorders!! Stop body shaming!”

Woolworths has come under fire for stocking a beauty product called “Fat Girl Scrub.”

Deanna from Adelaide posted a complaint directly on Woolworth’s Facebook page on Sunday when she noticed the skin care cream and has called for the supermarket to “stop body shaming.”

“I am not afraid to speak up. Not sure if you are aware but anorexia is the biggest killer among the broad range of mental illnesses.”

“Fat girl scrub???!! Are you kidding me?? It is disgusting!! Stop encouraging eating disorders!! Stop body shaming!!!,” she said.

The Scrub is a body exfoliate produced by skincare company Bliss.

“As part of your body-bettering routine, we suggest using in conjunction with regular exercise, a healthy diet, regular vigorous massage and the rest of the Bliss regimen,” a statement for the product says on their website. “This is not a weight or fat loss product.”

However, Deanna believes the product is misleading.

She also slammed Woolworths for stocking weight loss tablets.

“Please think carefully about stocking these types of goods in your stores on behalf of many people in society who are/know someone who is effected by anorexia, other eating disorders (bulimia/binge eating) and other forms of mental illness.”

Woolworths has been contacted for comment.
