Why you should never take the short-cut on the escalator

The warning signs are there for a reason, people.

Failing to heed warning signs is always going to pose a risk, but when you’ve got a beer in your hand sometimes you feel invincible.

A British man ignored the warning signs by an escalator in a London tube station and decided taking the shiny metal barriers down rather than the steps was a grand plan.

Sadly, he was mistaken as he soon discovered when he ploughed butt-first into a large piece of metal designed to deter joy riders from this exact malarkey. The man was propelled off the barrier and landed backside first on the sharp metal stairs.

As good mates do, his companions laughed and cheered him on, and his friend David bailey filmed the mishap as it happened at Angel station and posted it straight to Facebook.

“We didn’t expect him to do it but he just jumped up and off he went,” Mr Bailey, 27, told the Express newspaper.

“We were shocked, he just saw it and thought why not.

“There was a bit of blood and some cuts and bruises but he’s fine.”

The Transport for London authorities have condemned the prank as not only dangerous for the man, but also other customers.
