Ultra-conservative Jewish newspaper photoshops Angela Merkel and other female leaders out of Paris rally pictures

Female world leaders photoshopped out of Hamavaser's coverage

HaMavaser, an ultra-orthodox Jewish publication, stands accused of photoshopping three female world leaders out of a picture taken at the Paris march in solidarity.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo and EU foreign affairs and security chief, Frederica Mogherini have allegedly been removed from the photograph.

At the Paris rally Angela Merkel stood side-by-side with François Hollande and other world leaders.

In an attempt to also crop out Danish Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt, her hand remains visible in the far left side of the image.

Having been criticised in the past, Haredi publications generally do not display images of women, citing ‘modesty’ as the reason behind actions including having their faces blurred out or remaining absent altogether.

Based on similar grounds, New York paper Di Tzeitung airbrushed Hillary Clinton, then Secretary of State from the famous White House Situation Room photo of 2011, during the raid that killed Osama bin Laden.

Following the recent attack on Charlie Hedbo, the rally in Paris drew a crowd of more than a million people, reportedly the largest demonstration in French history.

The city was on high alert as supporters made their way from the historic Place de la Republique to Place de la Nation.
