When her seven-month-old son, Lukas, tragically died in 2013 his mother, Heather, did not hesitate to donate his organs so that her terrible loss may help another family reports Kidspot.
Now, three years later, Heather has been able to hear her son’s heart beating in a little girl’s chest, and the image of that miraculous moment is drumming home the message of just how imperative organ donation is.
Lukas’ organ were donated to three children, one of whom is Jordan Drake who has spent most of her life hospitalized with a congenital heart defect.
“There is another family out there, somewhere, you know who’s feeling something of what I’m feeling, somewhat, and I have the chance to make them not go through what I’m about to go through,” says Heather, of her decision to donate.
Hearing Lukas’ heart was a bittersweet, and very emotional moment, for Heather.
“It’s hard to describe … that she would be so selfless to be able to think of another family while she’s going through her grief,” said Esther Gonzalez, Jordan’s mum.
“We’re family now, we’re friends now, our families are families, we’ve brought our families together,” said Esther.
The two families are now bonded together for life and they have vowed to stay in touch.
