Mum dies giving birth to first child

Now “gorgeous little girl” Willa will tragically grow up without a mum.

A Queensland mum has died after suffering complications from a caesarean section while delivering her first child.

Amanda Sheppard was undergoing an elective caesarean at Rockhamption Base Hospital when something went wrong.

With beloved husband Glynn by her side, Amanda – who had been eagerly anticipating the birth of her first baby for months – tragically died. The Courier Mail reports she suffered an embolism.

Doctors managed to save the baby, a “gorgeous little girl” named Willa.

“This day was supposed to be one of the best and happiest days of their lives and instead she has now left her beloved husband and brand new baby girl behind,” a family friend wrote on a Go Fund Me page created to help Glynn and Willa.

“They would have been filled full of happiness & excitement to meet their first child.”

Amanda’s death will be investigated by the coroner.

The hospital – which has had five serious maternity ward incidents in the past 14 months – is also investigating.
