This deleted scene from Love Actually featuring a same-sex couple will break your heart

Like the entire film hadn't already got you right in the feels

No Christmas is complete without a screening of the iconic 2003 film Love Actually.

Every year we fall even more in love with the characters as we follow their ups, downs, and hilarious dances in the Prime Minister’s residence (hi, Hugh Grant!)

And now writer and director Richard Curtis has revealed his regret at cutting a scene involving an older lesbian couple that viewers would have no doubt also resonated with, news.com reports.

The scene features a stern headmistress returning home from work to greet her terminally ill partner, Geraldine. The couple share a light-hearted conversation about what to have for dinner, before we see Geraldine coughing in bed later that night.

Afterwards, Emma Thompson’s character announces Geraldine has passed away at the end of year school performance.

Of the scene, Curtis said, “The idea was meant to be you just casually met this very sort of stern headmistress and the idea was meant to be that later on in the film we suddenly fell in with [her] and you realise that no matter how unlikely it seems, that any character you come across in life has their own complicated tale of love.”

Sobbing…
