Our marriage values have changed so much in the past ten years that it’s easy to forget it wasn’t long ago that there were many suffocating rules surrounding the life stage.
One of the most jarring was the pressure to get married young.
There was such a rush to tie the knot to fit in with the status quo that people didn’t have time to date around and figure out what they wanted from a relationship.
It’s also important to remember that for women, there was way more pressure to get hitched before they were “too old”.
Luckily, over the years, society has become more accepting of holding off from marriage to live life a little bit before getting serious with a relationship – some aren’t even getting married at all! Power to.

Their exciting decisions make headlines worldwide and, as a result, they subliminally break down barriers.

In 2021, the former Sunrise host Sam married her horse breeder partner Richard Lavender on New Year’s Eve.
The journalist was 45 years old when she married her paramour at his rural property in NSW’s Southern Highlands.
When a Sunrise fan asked Sam tips for getting married older, she gave the most realistic advice.
“My advice would be to concentrate on the important things. Have the people you love there (the ones who aren’t in lockdown), the true friends. Keep it simple, good quality Champagne, good quality food, good music (find a fabulous 14-year-old who can arrange a kick-ass playlist) and, most importantly, a good quality husband.
“Wear whatever you bloody like. And find the best photographer/make-up person that you can afford,” she said.
Keith and Nicole were joined by a bevy of celeb guests.

Keith Urban got married for the first time and Nicole Kidman for the second time at 39 years old.
The actor previously married Tom Cruise, and the country singer wed in June 2006 in Manly, Sydney. They were joined by a slew of celebrity guests, including Russell Crowe, Naomi Watts, and Hugh Jackman.
These two are inseparable.

Karl shocked Australia when he left his first wife of 21 years, but he moved on swiftly to Jasmine, and when they tied the knot, he was 44, and she was 34.
The television presenter held his nuptials at a glitzy destination wedding in Cabo, Mexico, and three years later, the couple is still loved-up.
Karl posted a picture of his wife with her dad for their anniversary last year and wrote, “On our anniversary to Jas’ wonderful father @bobyarby, thanks for letting your beauty marry a proper bogan.”
Cameron never thought she would tie the knot.

Cameron always said she never wanted to get married, but when she met Benji, her world changed.
The couple said ‘yes’ to forever after nine months of dating in a backyard ceremony at 41 years old.
During a conversation with Gwyneth Paltrow’s Goop, she admitted, “I think it’s a matter of — I just hadn’t met my husband, you know? I had boyfriends before. And there’s a really, really distinct difference between husbands and boyfriends. And I have a husband who is … just my partner in life and in everything.”
Racheal and Daniel only had four wedding guests.

It’s easy to think this lowkey couple has been married since they were young, but Rachel was 41, and Daniel was 43.
They sweetly wed in front of four guests, including their two children with other partners.

The couple went all out by having not two but three weddings.
Their first took place in Las Vegas at one of the famous chapels there; the union wasn’t legitimate but rather an excuse to try on weddings for size.
Kourtney and Travis made their relationship legally binding when they wed at a small church before riding into the sunset on a convertible with a ‘Just Married’ sign.
They finally had their big fat bonanza during a Dolce & Gabbana sponsored event in Portofino, Italy.

He was an enviable bachelor for years before meeting the incredible Amal – and they shook the world to its core when they got engaged.
George was 53, and Amal was 36 when they married in Venice, Italy.
During a rare interview with Vogue in 2018, the lawyer revealed she never expected to get married.
“I was 35 when I met him,” she told the publication. “It wasn’t obvious that it was going to happen for me. And I wasn’t willing or excited about the idea of getting married or having a family in the absence of that.”
