Jayne Azzopardi’s family life may look picture-perfect, but her journey to motherhood wasn’t as easy as it might seem.

Before Jane fell pregnant with her first son, she revealed to her Today viewers that she was struggling to conceive.

“I feel compelled to say that it hasn’t been easy for us, and I know that there will be people watching who are struggling to conceive or… have experienced loss themselves, and I know they’ll be happy for me,” she said.

Her words connected women around Australia navigating their version of her story.

“But I also know that it can be extra painful to hear somebody else announcing happy news, so I hope everybody gets their happy announcement, but we are just, we are just delighted,” she continued.

In an essay titled Essential Baby, Jayne shared a raw and heartbreakingly honest insight into her IVF journey.

“It’s something that can be difficult to talk about, and as a result, difficult for anyone who hasn’t experienced it to understand what it must be like,” the journalist wrote.

“For many, it’s not the same thing as losing a living breathing child you have come to know and love – but it’s losing everything you hoped and imagined that child to be.”

In February 2020, Jayne’s life changed forever when she husband Trent Butler welcomed their firstborn, Joey.

“Little Joey Lance Edward Butler arrived at 11:31 am on Tuesday, and mum says ‘he’s perfect,'” she announced in a statement.

Then ten months later, more love followed when Theodore arrived in June 2021.

She revealed her news on Instagram by sharing, “Hands and heart full.❤️Perfect little Theodore Phillip arrived last week and completed our family. Mum and dad are busy, tired and feeling very grateful for our healthy & handsome little surprise package.

“Extra special that he gets his middle name from his much-loved Poppy, who he just missed out on meeting,” Jayne wrote alongside a sweet first snap of the bub.

Alongside this gorgeous snap, Jayne shared a message to bring attention to Perinatal Mental Health.

She wrote, “Being a mum is beautiful and messy and hard and amazing and everything in between. When they both need you at once and you and the house are a mess. 💙

“This week is Perinatal Mental Health Week which is about raising awareness for the very real mental health challenges we face every day as parents.

@GidgetFoundation and @Happiest_Baby have teamed up to raise awareness and much-needed funds for this important cause.

“Happiest Baby is donating $250 to Gidget Foundation Australia on my behalf as they recognise being a parent is harder than ever.

“You can help too – share your story that busts the myth of the “perfect parent”. If you post and tag #PerinatalMentalHealth and @GidgetFoundation, Happiest Baby will donate a further $10 on your behalf to Gidget Foundation Australia (for up to 100 posts). If you need support, visit gidgetfoundation.org.au.”

Jayne found the bright side of pushing a heavy stroller by commenting on her post, “They get to kick back & relax with drinks and snacks.. I get to push >35kg up & down hills to get to the park.. and then run around after them the whole time we’re there.

Who needs the gym?! 💪🏼 Glad the rain stopped so we could get outside today! ☀️.”

The best play date a mother could ask for!

“Peakaboo! 🥰 Toddler energy levels peaking.. mama’s nonexistent but powering through because how could you NOT smile while seeing him explore the world with all that running and climbing and hiding and shrieking and laughing and talking. So many words… “CAR!” still the most popular by far 😂.”
