The 44th annual American Music Awards has kicked off at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.
Unlike the Grammys, the AMAs are entirely fan-voted… and the ceremony has a stellar line-up.
Hosted by supermodel Gigi Hadid and comedian Jay Pharoah, the AMAs will have performances from John Legend, The Weeknd, Bruno Mars, Justin Bieber, One Direction’s Niall Horan, Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj.
Charging the nominations is everyone’s favourite rapper Drake, who is up for 13 gongs. His ex Rihanna comes in at a close second with seven nominations, while, Adele and Justin Bieber are tied with five nominations each.
Meanwhile, this year’s recipient of The American Music Award of Merit is Police front-man and music legend, Sting.
